Although our focus is primarily icewater search and rescue, we are always happy to see positive outcomes in any types of SAR missions, and this one from Ghost Lake Reservoir in southern Alberta, Canada, certainly qualifies as both dangerous and positive.

Here is a snippet:

"EMS units from Nakota, Cochrane, Banff, Kananakis and Canmore attended, plus there was supervisory support from the city. RCMP, Cochrane fire rescue and conservation officers were also involved."

1000 Island Airboats uses the Cadillac 6.2L V8 Supercharged LSA Engine in every airboat we build. There are many reasons why we believe this is the absolute best engine to power our airboats, here are a few:

  • When operating in some of the most inhospitable conditions in the harshest environments on earth, our customers must be assured that our engines will operate reliably the worst conditions, and that is what we get with the GM LSA. During testing, it was run more than 270 consecutive hours at wide-open throttle without a failure

  • In transitioning between extreme brash ice, icewater, solid ice, snow, slush and everything in between, our airboats rely on the extra kick provided by the GM LSA turbocharger.

  • In airboat design, overall weight is a HUGE issue, and the GM LSA engine, because of aluminum construction, reduces weight approximately 100 pounds compared to a conventional cast-iron cylinder block.
